GROOVES

In 2023 I gutted and rebuilt my studio—a complete excavation that reclaimed half the space I had been working around for years. I leveled the floor, built out walls, removed a hulking oil tank: the process felt less like construction and more like archaeology. What emerged was a workspace that finally matched my thinking. It felt like a present I had been trying to locate for too long.

These paintings are the record of the reorientation that followed, simultaneously indeterminate and highly delineated. They often read as floor plans for compartmentalized rooms, schematics for territory still being imagined, blueprints for reclaimed lost space. I have dozens of drawings for this series and each one feels like a different proposition for the same unmappable territory.
